Remnants of Nicholas Forecast to Produce Showers and Thunderstorms from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle Through Friday...

Hurricane Nicholas moved across the Texas coast on Tuesday then weakened to a tropical depression Wednesday as it tracked over southern Louisiana. The storm continues to produce heavy rain and flooding remains a threat through Friday. An additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is forecast along the coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. At 4:00 a.m. CDT, the center of post-tropical storm Nicholas was located about 60 miles south-southeast of Lafayette, LA. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 25 mph. The storm is nearly stationary with a forward movement of 2 mph. Flash Flood Watches are in effect along the coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. A tropical distrurbance off the Mid-Atlantic coast will strengthen but will remain off the coast and pass out to sea over the next few days.

Major Flooding Produced by the Remnants of Hurricane Ida Tonight in the Northeast...

The remnants of Hurricane Ida has produced very heavy rain, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes today and tonight in the New York City Tri-state area. Heavy Flooding is occurring in Manhattan along the FDR Drive and in Queens. Flooding is also occurring in the suburbs of New Jersey, Connecticut and the Lower Hudson Valley. A tornado touched down in Burlington County, New Jersey earlier this evening. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for most of the New York City metro area. A total of 3.15 inches of rain fell in Central Park between 8:51 p.m. and 9:51 p.m. this evening. This set a record for hourly rainfall at Central Park according to the National Weather Service. The previous hourly record rainfall of 1.94 inches was set during tropical storm Henri last month. A State of Emergency has been declared in New Jersey for all counties. Local area rainfall totals included from this major flooding event included Cranford 9.05 in., Stamford 8.10 in., Brooklyn 7.76 in., Central Park 7.19 in. and 6.90 in. Queens at La Guardia Airport. The rain will taper off and end Thursday morning.  
The Associated Press reported that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey suspended all flights due to flooding at Newark-Liberty International Airport. A roof collapsed at a Postal Service building in Kearny, New Jersey.  The Somerset Patriots baseball stadium was flooded and a house exploded due to gas in Rahway, New Jersey.
