Strong Coastal Storm Pounding Long Island, New York, New Jersey and Coastal New England Today and Tonight...
Heavy rain that led to flooding developed across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York City late yesterday afternoon. Strong low pressure is developing off the coast today. A large trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere has produced a deep flow of moisture from the south and strong vertical motion that is producing heavy rainfall. Flash Flood Warnings has been posted over several counties over the eastern portions of New Jersey this morning. A total of 2.70 inches of rain has fallen at Newark Airport and 2.38 inches in Central Park through 8:00 a.m. today. The storm will strengthen off the coast of Long Island today and then retrograde or move southeastward towards and coast before pulling away to the northeast out to sea tonight and Wednesday. Flood Watches, Flash Flood Warnings, High Wind Warnings for the coast are in effect through tonight. Sunshine returns to the city on Wednesday.
