Early Season Nor'easter Winding Down...

The second of two coastal storms is moving away from the NYC metropolitan area. At 5:30 pm on Sunday, October 18, 2009 Doppler radar continues to show a large area of precipitation with heavy snow across interior Massachusetts, extreme northeast Connecticut and southern New Hampshire. Most of the rain has ended in the New York City area with rain continuing to fall across parts of Long Island. It was a weekend to remember in the Northeast as a very cold and unusual early season blast of cold air came down from Canada keeping temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below normal from Thursday October 14th through Sunday October 18th. People walking the streets were dressed for winter in NYC with gloves, hats and scarves. Winds gusted to more than 40 mph at times. The New England Patriot - Tennessee Titans came was played in snow for most of the game as it accumulated on the field. A rare October snow game for the NFL.
The first storm affected the Mid-Atlantic states and the Tri-State NY metropolitan area Thursday night into Friday and then another storm moved south and east of the NYC metro area Saturday night and Sunday.
The temperature in Central Park on October 18, 2009 ranged from a high of only 45 to a low of 42. The normal high is 62 and the normal low is 48. Coastal flooding occurred in parts of Nassau County Long Island that resulted in street flooding.
