Light Snow on Christmas Eve Morning for the Northeast and New York City Metro Area...

A band of light snow is moving through the Northeast this morning. Up to an inch of snow can be expected with roads becoming partially snow covered. Sidewalks in Midtown have a new coating of snow. Central Park received 1.8 inches of snow last Saturday and there is still a little left on the ground - a rare white Christmas for NYC. The weather will be sunny for Christmas Day with a high of 35 to 40 degrees.  Have a Merry Christmas.

First Snow Accumulation of Winter 2024-25 for New York City

A weakening "clipper" low pressure system moving through the area combined with low pressure offshore produced the first snow accumulation of winter for New York City.  Approximately 1 inch of snow has fallen in Midtown. This is the first accumulation in December since December 24, 2021 when 0.2" fell in Central Park.  The last significant accumulation in December in Central Park was the 10.5" snowfall of December 16-17, 2020. The snow is ending this morning in the city but the snow will continue to fall over Long Island for the next couple of hours.  The weather will turn milder in the coming days as a "Canadian Warming" occurs in the stratosphere at 10 mb.  Christmas Day will be sunny and seasonably cold with a high of 40 degrees.  Happy Holidays.
