Arctic Blast Continues Across the Eastern Half of the Nation, Wind Chill Advisories in Effect, Very Cold Temperatures for NYC Times Square Ball Drop Tonight...

Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories are in effect tonight from the Midwest to the Northeast. Today was the sixth day in a row with below freezing temperatures in New York City. It is 15 degrees now in Central Park at 3 PM, -12 in International Falls, 4 in Binghamton, 21 in Washington, DC and 3 in Mount Pocono, PA. The forecast is for the very cold weather to continue through the end of the week. Lows will be in the single digits for several days this week in the city with wind chills below zero.  Models indicate a strong storm will graze the Northeast as it passes far off the coast. Some of the snow from this storm and strong winds could affect NYC/Long Island and coastal New England on Thursday. The GFS is forecasting a brief warm-up for the New York City metro area but not until the second week of January. This will be the coldest New Years in Times Square since 1962 when it was 11 degrees.  The coldest New Years in the city was 1 degree in 1917. Have a Happy New Year.

Snow for Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning for Parts of the Northeast...

The best chance for snow on Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning will be from northern New Jersey to New England. Two areas of low pressure, one moving across Pennsylvania and another one forming off the coast will produce light snow, sleet and rain across the Northeast during the night of Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. The NAM is warmer than the GFS as the rain/snow line across New Jersey and NYC differs slightly. There will be rain mixing with snow from Central NJ southward as well as the city and across Long Island. As much as 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected north and west of the city across interior sections. A cold blast of air will follow Christmas Day and it will be cold for the remainder of the week with the possibility of snow next Friday and Saturday in the NYC Metro area. Have a great holiday.
