Unusually Cool Weather Today in the New York City Metro Area and New England...

A strong cold front combined with an unusually strong upper level vortex for June produced heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon across Southern New England and the New York Tri-State region. The temperature cooled to 52 degrees during the afternoon in Central Park which was 6 degrees above the record low for the date.  It is very unusual to see temperatures in the 50s during day in early June in New York City. The sky cleared late this afternoon in the city and sunshine boosted temperatures into the lower 60s.  The temperature will cool into the mid 50s tonight in the city with lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s in the suburbs.  It appears that the first half of June will be on the cooler side as an active jetstream brings down cooler air from Canada across the Northeast.
