Spring Snow for the Northeast Today and Tonight...3 to 6 Inches Expected for New York City...

Spring begins at 6:45 p.m. this evening and at this time it will be snowing across the New York City metro area.  The snow is expected to begin this afternoon and continue until midnight.  As much as 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected in New York City.  With temperatures above freezing, the snow will accumulate primarily on grassy surfaces this afternoon.  Radar indicates that snow is spreading across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and northern Maryland.  The snow will end from west to east by 2 AM Saturday morning with the heaviest snow falling this evening after sunset.  The weather will be dry and unseasonably cold this weekend.  The 8 to 14 day outlook from NOAA indicates that the cold trend will continue for the Northeast with below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation.  The long range GFS model indicates that there could be another light snow event late this month or in early April.
