Hurricane Irene May Hit New York City or Nassau County, Long Island Directly Sunday Evening...

The latest computer models and forecasts from the National Hurricane Center indicate that Queens, Brooklyn and Nassau County may receive a direct hit from the center of Hurricane Irene with 85 mph winds (Category 1 strength). The GFDL model brings the storm to just east of Atlantic City Sunday evening and then the storm tracks into Fairfield County of southwest Connecticut. High surf with waves to 20 feet, beach erosion, coastal flooding, flash flooding, rip currents and wind gusts over 80 mph are possible especially across coastal areas of Long Island, NJ and CT.
