Very Heavy Rain Today in the New York Metro Area More Than 6" in Places

Parts of Long Island and southern Queens have already received almost 6 inches of since last night and more rain will fall later today. The radar shows very heavy rain and thunderstorms with frequently lightning and loud thunder across Long Island, New York City and central and southern New Jersey. Some rainfall totals so far: Newark 3.27" (7:45 a.m.), Bellmore, Long Island 5.74" (7:30 a.m.) and Central Park 3.19" (7:43 a.m.).
