Big Chill for the Great Lakes and the Northeast this Week with Lake Effect Snows...Chance of Snow Friday for New York City...

The snow-free winter continues here in New York City with only a trace of snowfall through today. Low pressure will track off the coast today while weak low pressure moves across New England. Today will be cloudy in the city and across much of the Northeast with snow showers and light snow. Lake effect snow will develop in a strong northwest wind today into early next week. Amounts should range from 6 to 20 inches through Tuesday morning. The GFS and European models are indicating that a low pressure system will move northeastward out of the Tennessee River Valley on Thursday spreading snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain to New York City and southern New England Friday into Saturday. The NAO remains positive while the AO is strongly negative. Above average temperatures are forecast for most of the nation over the next 6 to 14 days.
