Stormy Pattern Over Next Two Weeks in the US...

The GFS model is forecasting a stormy pattern during the next two weeks over the US.  A frequent feature of note is the blocking/ridging that is taking place in the northwest and western Atlantic Ocean.  There are two coastal storms foreasting by the model in the Northeast as well as the Pacific Northwest during this period.  Storms are also racing across southern and central Canada producing snow.  By 384 hours, the model is forecasting a storm existing the Northeast, one moving into the Northwest, another one spread snow across southern Canada and one forming over southern Texas.  The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) has been sharply negative which is completely opposite to what the index was running last year for most of the winter.  The NAO has been slightly positive in the last few days but the GFS is forecasting a negative NAO trend over the next two weeks.
